Ginny Chomitz is a Senior Scientist
at the Institute for Community Health and a Lecturer on Medicine at the
Harvard Medical School. Her work focuses primarily on promoting healthy
weigh through school-based nutrition and physical activity action programs
and research. She currently has grant funding for Growing Healthy – a
school garden and food service fruit and vegetable promotion project;
Physical Education Enhancement (PEP) – a grant which includes developing
and evaluating health and fitness report cards; and Beverages and Student
Health (BASH) – an environmental approach to promoting non-caloric beverages.
Core to this work is aligning the research and action programs to Cambridge
and Somerville community-determined priorities and resources.
Dr. Chomitz has a BA from Antioch University in Yellow Springs, Ohio and
a MS and PhD from Tufts University School of Nutrition in Medford, MA. Her
doctoral work included field work in Java, Indonesia, exploring the
relationships among diet, stature and household factors.
