Ginny Chomitz is a Senior Scientist at the Institute for Community Health and a Lecturer on Medicine at the Harvard Medical School. Her work focuses primarily on promoting healthy weigh through school-based nutrition and physical activity action programs and research. She currently has grant funding for Growing Healthy – a school garden and food service fruit and vegetable promotion project; Physical Education Enhancement (PEP) – a grant which includes developing and evaluating health and fitness report cards; and Beverages and Student Health (BASH) – an environmental approach to promoting non-caloric beverages. Core to this work is aligning the research and action programs to Cambridge and Somerville community-determined priorities and resources. Dr. Chomitz has a BA from Antioch University in Yellow Springs, Ohio and a MS and PhD from Tufts University School of Nutrition in Medford, MA. Her doctoral work included field work in Java, Indonesia, exploring the relationships among diet, stature and household factors. Return to About Us: Staff |
